Charles Howard Manuel was born in Mckeesport, PA., October 22, 1925 to parents Elsie Margaretta and Richard Victor Manuel.
After graduating from McKeesport High School in 1943 he joined the U.S. Navy Submarine Service to fight in WWII. He married his first wife Evelyn in 1947 and after his discharge from the Navy that same year they moved to Bakersfield where he entered the construction business as a journeyman carpenter.
While doing construction work he became a reserve volunteer for the Kern County Sheriff's Dept. and in 1956 entered law enforcement full time serving with The Kern County Sheriff's Dept. for 20 years. After retirment from the Sheriff's Dept. he continued with a small construction business and enjoyed having time to travel and actively pursue a lifelong interest in collecting and researching the weapons and accoutrements of the Civil War and western frontier.
Chuck is survived by his wife and partner of 30 years, Shirley; his daughter Linda and husband Larry Hill, daughter Peggy and husband Bob Howard. His grandchildren Ty Elam and Ryan Hill, Troy and Rachelle Howard, Chad and Alicia Howard and
great-grandchildren Morgan, Emily and Tyler Elam, Jacob and Lilah Hill; Brooke, Tyler and Tawny Howard, and stepsons Stephen and Flint Teitsworth.
Chuck and all of his family wish to extend the most special thanks to his caregivers at Arbolado House and Hoffmann Hospice for the dignity and comfort they provided in his final days.
At Chuck's request no services are planned; family and friends are invited to share in a farewell and celebration of Chuck's long and well lived life at Stockale Country Club from 4 - 6 pm on Sunday July 20th.
