Cory M. Thompson

Cory Michael Thompson, devoted son, father, and brother, passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on November 17, 2023, after a valiant battle with cancer.

Cory was born in Bakersfield, California on April 30, 1982 to Robert and Brenda Thompson. He was the second oldest child. Cory attended Norris Elementary, Norris Middle, and North High Schools. Cory enjoyed rollerblading as a child and as an adult. He was known for his great sense of humor and giant cannon balls in the family pool. He loved making people laugh! Cory had a love for fast cars and enjoyed restoring old cars alongside his dad as a teenager.

For much of his adult life, he worked at Rusty’s Pizza where he rolled the best dough and loved delivering pizza to families. When he was able, Cory enjoyed gardening and had quite the green thumb. Cory’s 12 year old son Leo was the light of his life! His humor and fun personality lives on in his son.

In 2015, Cory gave his life to Jesus at Valley Baptist Church, where he served as an usher and greeter for some time. Upon being diagnosed with cancer, Cory’s desire was to bring God glory through his fight, whether it be healing on earth or in heaven. His mind was set on God, and now he is forever in the presence of Lord.

Cory is predeceased by grandparents, Charles and Erma Thompson, and Horace and Geneva Trammell. He is survived by his parents, Robert and Brenda Thompson; son, Leo Thompson; siblings Shane Thompson (Rikki), Jacob Thompson, Lindsey Gamboa (Brandon), and Tracey Barksdale (Tyler); fiance Corrine Braudrick; nephews Tucker Thompson, Luke Barksdale, Logan and Bruce Gamboa, Zayne Thompson; nieces Kameron Thompson, Claire and Ellie Barksdale, and Emma Gamboa, along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

The family wants to extend a special thank you to Denise and the Hoffman Hospice team for the gentle and thorough care they provided Cory throughout his illness.
