Denis Ward Dumble was born in Bakersfield, CA on September 20 1937, to Arthur and Elsie Dumble and passed away on September 27, 2013.
He was a descendant of one of Bakersfield’s pioneer families. He attended Lowell School, Golden State Junior High, Bakersfield High School, and Bakersfield College. While in high school Denis ran track and continued on while at BC. After high school he joined the Marine Corps Reserve. Denis worked at Clarence Rae’s Chevron station before going to work for PG&E, where he was employed for many years as both a lineman and a troubleman. Denis was an avid bowler and participated in several leagues. In later years he enjoyed his 1932 Ford Flathead and was a member of the National Street Rod Association. In 2007 Denis was inducted into the BC Track and Field Hall of Fame as a member of the 1956 California and National Junior College Champion Cross Country Team coached by John Collins.
“Denny” will truly be missed by both family and friends. He is survived by his daughters, Diane and Danielle; Summer (to whom he was like a father); his brother, Duane (Gail); nieces Dawn (Matt) and Denise (who was named after Denis); nephews David (Isley) and Daniel; great-nieces and nephews; several cousins; and his close friends, Bob and Peggy Howard.
We would like to thank the caregivers at Evergreen Gardens for the care given to Denis in his last weeks. A graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 12.
Services entrusted to Kern River Family Mortuary.
