Donald Eugene Hurst

September 22, 1939 - December 16, 2024

Donald E. Hurst passed away and went on to be with the Lord on December 16, 2024 at the age of 85. He was born to Isaac and Elsie Hurst on September 22, 1939 in Gore, Oklahoma. His family moved to California in 1941 and settled in McFarland.

Donald attended McFarland High School where he excelled in football, basketball and baseball, graduating in 1957. During those years he met Ellen McCaslin and they married on December 18, 1958, six months after her graduation. He attended Bakersfield College and chose to settle in the small town McFarland to raise his family. Donald and Ellen each maintained businesses for many years, all while raising their two children, Clark and Terri. Donald owned and operated a hay harvesting business with his father and Ellen operated a beauty shop. Later in life, they moved to Bakersfield where each had second careers.

Donald's love for his family was second to none. He was an old movie buff, listened to gospel music and followed sports for most of his life. In his earlier years, he also like to hunt and fish a little.

Donald is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ellen M. Hurst, children Clark (Ellen) Hurst, Terri (Tim) Pratt, grandchildren Kristen (Doug) Wright, Tyler (Caroline) Hurst, great grandchildren Bradyn and Kylee Wright, brother Gary Hurst and sister-in-law Linda McCaslin.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Mayra and Mireya Nunes Perez for their amazing care. Also, a thank you to the staff at Memorial Hospital and Hoffman Services and Home Care for their loving care and support.

A graveside service will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Park 3700 River Blvd. Bakersfield, CA on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at 10:00 am.
