Sarah Donna Roberts passed away on January 23, 2015. She is survived by her two daughters: Mary and Deborah, and her four grandchildren: Devon, Alexandria, Kennady and Chance. Sarah Donna was born May 30, 1943 and adopted by Mary Alice and Walter Richard Roberts. Donna, as she preferred to be addressed, grew up in a loving home and was married shortly after high school.
She was a devoted wife and mother, but also an accomplished professional. In fact, Donna had two careers over her lifetime. The first was as a COBOL programmer and key punch operator for Kern County, where she wrote the programs that run county payroll and election tallying.
After retiring from the county, she received her teaching credential and taught home economics for the Kern High School District. She spent the next twenty years inspiring young students all over Bakersfield, many of whom grew to affectionately refer to Mrs. Burk as their grandma. Donna was a caring, thoughtful and wonderful mother and grandmother to her entire family. Her presence will be profoundly missed. And although we remember her fondly, there will always be a touch of emptiness in our hearts where she once lived.
A memorial service will be held in Donna's honor on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at 3pm, at 2323 Mount Vernon Ave. Heritage Bible Church Social Hall, SW corner. Those who knew Donna are welcome to come and celebrate her life.
