Earnis Clifton Stewart

July 21, 1918 — May 15, 2013

Earnis (Ernie) C. Stewart was born July 21st 1918 in Wagoner Oklahoma to Henry Hamilton Stewart and Ida Isabel Stewart (Whorton). He grew up with five brothers and three sisters. The family moved from Oklahoma to California in 1937 and eventually settled in Hanford California.
He enlisted in the army in December of 1942 and served in WWII until 1946. At the time of his discharge he had reached the rank of Staff Sergeant. During his time in the army he served in France, Germany and the South Pacific.
After the war he returned to Hanford where he married Ruby Marie Ornellas and had four children.
They moved to Taft, CA. in 1959 where they raised their family.
Ernie worked for the State of California as a heavy equipment operator until he retired and moved to Bakersfield in 1974.
Earnie was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Ruby, and their oldest son Melvin.
He is survived by Melvin’s wife Carol Stewart of Santa Rosa and their five children Chris, Patrick, James, Michael and Staci, son David Stewart and wife Nancy of Taft and their two children April and Leah, daughter Kathy Craven husband Bob of Shingle Springs and their two children Patricia and Jesse, and daughter Deborah Pace and husband Tom of Santa Barbara and their two children Tom Jr. & Scott and sixteen great-grand children.
He is also survived by two sisters, Sylvia Stewart of Hanford, Ca and Gladys Hurd of Antioch Ca.
Ernie was always there to lend a helping hand to family, friends and strangers.
He was a very kind and caring person and will be deeply missed.
There will be a graveside service for family and friends at the Bakersfield Memorial Cemetery with full military honors on Friday May 31, 2013 at 12:30PM.
