GERALD FOSTER KNOPF
April 4, 1932 - March 2, 2021
Jerry was born in Bakersfield, California to Foster and Helen Knopf on April 4, 1932 and passed away peacefully on March 2, 2021 one month before his 89th birthday.
Jerry attended Kern Union High School and graduated in 1950. He married his wife of 43 years, Joan Gardiner Knopf (decd. 1994), after he graduated. Jerry joined the Marine Corps in 1950 as well and served in the Korean War. He reenlisted as soon as he came home and continued his military career for 30 years as Sergeant Major.
Jerry was one of the original members of the Back Country Horsemen of America. He also worked for Pacific Bell for 25 years. He was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers and was a self-employed Backhoe Operator for many years.
Jerry's passion was always rooted in cattle ranching. He was gifted two heifers by close friends when he was a very young man. Jerry bought land north of town as he grew his herd. Eventually moving up to "The Ranch" in 1990. He lived on and loved his piece of paradise until the day he passed away.
In 1996 Jerry was the commander of the GMVA Rodeo and in 2018 he was the Grand Marshal of the Glennville Rodeo.
Jerry and Pamela were happily married in March of 2001. They worked side by side raising cattle for almost 25 years. Which continues to this day.
Jerry is survived by Pamela Knopf, his wife of 20 years. Brothers Layton (decd.) and Clayton (Jean) and sister Lynn Lopeteguy. Daughters Debbie Hill (Don) and Elaine Maltby. Sons Casey and Isabel Polkinghorne, Darin Polkinghorne and Andy (decd.) and Cara Clarke Polkinghorne. Also many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The funeral services for Jerry will be held at a later day & time.
