Laura (Lynn) Conger-Ashley
July 5, 1951 – June 7, 2016
Laura (Lynn) Conger-Ashley, born July 5, 1951 in Taft, CA passed peacefully in her sleep after a long battle with many health issues on June 7, 2016 Bakersfield, CA. Laura was the daughter of Kent Lewis Conger and Sally Ellen (Vaught) Conger. After losing her parents at a very young age, Laura was raised in Bakersfield by her paternal Uncle and Aunt, Carl and Elinor Gromer and her Grandmother Sally Vaught in Taft, CA. Laura attended North High School and graduated from Taft High School in 1969. Laura met her husband Jerald Wayne Ashley, Jr. in Burbank, CA, where they were married in 1975. A year later Jerry and Laura returned to Bakersfield to raise their 3 children. After Laura's kids had all started grade school, Laura returned to school herself to pursue her goals of becoming a teacher. She earned a BA from Cal State University of Bakersfield and her teaching credentials from Fresno State University. Laura had a love for teaching and those subjects included History, English and ESL. Laura's hobbies included sewing, quilting, watching NASCAR, being in the mountains and working on her family genealogy. Laura loved the holidays and especially loved making handmade gifts for her children and grandchildren. Laura is preceded in death by her parents, Kent and Sally Conger, her grandmother Sally Vaught, her Uncle and Aunt, Carl and Elinor Gromer and her very special first born grandson Matthew Shea. Laura is survived by her loving husband Jerry of 41 years, her brother Kent (Anne) Conger, her Aunt Jackie Burton, her 3 children, Jennifer (Jeff) Cole, JeAnna (Jeff) Brumfield, and Jeremy (Camber) Ashley, her grandchildren, Darian, Haylie, Brock, Beckham, Bristol and Colton and her great granddaughter Claire, as well as her nieces, nephews and numerous cousins.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 10:00am at The LDS Church, 2828 McCray St., Bakersfield, CA 93308.
Her family would like to thank Dr. Senining at CBCC and Dr. Jex at BMH Wound Care and their staff for their constant care and compassion for Laura. A special thank you to the Meadows Ward, Relief Society and especially Stacie Dartnell.
