Marvin was born Dec. 11, 1936, in Salmon Idaho to Leo Stephen Hutchings and Eunice Hannah Curtis Hutchings. He was the 3rd child of this union, Joining his older sister Norma Eunice Hutchings, and older brother Stephen Leo Hutchings. Six years later, Marvin would become a big brother as they welcomed the 4th Child, Melvin Delano Hutchings.

Marvin spent most of his childhood in Gilmore, Idaho where his father worked in the mines.

He attended grade school in Gilmore, Idaho and went to Leadore, Idaho for High School.

In 1954 he married his high school sweetheart, the love of his life, Irene Carolyn Davis in Leadore, Idaho on Oct. 15,1954. They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Oct.14,1967. They would have celebrated their 70th anniversary Oct.15th

For a short time, Marvin worked in the mine at Cobalt, Idaho with his father and older brother Stephen. After a tragic accident, in the mine, resulting in the death of his brother Stephen the family moved back to Leadore and Gilmore Idaho.

Marvin worked for various ranchers until 1955 then he and his wife moved to Idaho Falls where he began working for R.T. French Potato processing company (French’s) in Shelley Idaho he continued with R.T. French for 20 years

While in Idaho Falls four children were born, Curtis Marvin Hutchings, Carolyn Denice Hutchings, Larene Debra Hutchings, Stephen Robert Hutchings.

Marvin rented various properties in Idaho Falls and Shelley area where he and his family started raising Appaloosa horses, hay and grain.

 In 1970 Marvin and Irene sold their home in Idaho falls and purchased a 70-acre farm between Shelley and Idaho Falls. Where Marvin (with the help of his wife and children) farmed for 10 years raising hay, grain, cattle, sheep, pigs and chickens. Allowing the children to have their own horses and baby lambs, all while Marvin continued to work full time at the R.T. French company as the lead production mechanic.

In 1980 he decided to follow a childhood dream and he and his wife moved to Salmon, Idaho. Where he purchased a shoe repair business from their son, Curtis. They renamed the business Marv’s Shoe Repair. He and his wife ran this business successfully for 20 years . They also purchased a ranch, south of Salmon, Idaho on the Salmon River called

12-Mile Ranch. They raised hay, grain and cattle. Marvin also rented extra pasture and hay ground from Ray Infanger and Eldon Stokes for many years. 

Health problems caused him to lease the 12 Mile Ranch to other ranchers. He made a move to Marsing, Idaho where he purchased a 5-acre place, still having a few cows. They remained in Marsing for 10 years until a car accident left him confined to a wheelchair. In 2019 they moved to Bakersfield, California to be close to their daughter Larene, her husband Roger and their children. Marvin was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and loved to do missionary work.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Stephen, a sister Norma, brother-in-law Robert, oldest son, Curtis and great grand-daughter Tristen Lee Thomas.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Irene Carolyn Davis Hutchings, daughter Carolyn Hutchings Sande, of Grand Junction, Colorado, daughter, Larene Hutchings Meng (Roger) of Bakersfield, California, son, Stephen Hutchings (Lorrie) of Pendleton, Oregon, brother, Melvin Hutchings (Virginia) of Rigby, Idaho

21 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be held Sept 20, 2024, 11:30am viewing 10:30 am at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints 5500 Fruitvale Ave Bakersfield, Ca 93308

Burial to follow service at Shafter Memorial Park 18662 S. Central Hwy. Shafter, Ca 93263
