Mike Joe Moshier

Mike “The Race Doctor” Moshier was called home to his Heavenly Father September 6th 2015 at Chandler Regional Medical Center in Arizona due to complications with cancer. He was 69.
Mike was born on September 10, 1945 in Taft, CA to his parents, Carl and Maureen Moshier. Born with a love for entertaining and a passion for performing; Following a role in the movie “MASH”, Mike and wife Vera hit the road with his band, “Vera Lynn &Young Century” in the late 60’s and early 70’s. After a tragic accident in Oregon that cost him his right leg, the family settled in Bakersfield CA. He spent his entire life in the service of other amputees showing them there is “Life After Injury”. He received his state certification as Emergency Medical Technician from Bakersfield College in 1993. Mike retired from Occidental Oil Company as Senior Safety Advisor in 2012 after 35 years of service. He recently retired after 21 years as track announcer at the Bakersfield Speedway where he earned the name “The Race Doctor”.
Mike was beloved by the community and a stranger to no one. His passion in life was to uplift, encourage and to inspire others. He loved racing, music, football & basketball but most of all his family and friends.
Mike is survived by his 3 sons Monty and wife Kelly of Prescott AZ, Mike and wife Jodi of Gilbert AZ, and Casey and wife Nicole of Gilbert AZ; his sister Beverly Nelson and husband Charles of Bakersfield CA; his brother Don Moshier and wife Marilyn of Santa Maria CA and 13 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father and mother Carl and Maureen Moshier and his niece Debbie Bingham.
Funeral services for Mike Moshier will be Saturday September 19th at 10 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 5500 Fruitvale Ave., just south of Olive Dr. in Bakersfield Ca. A graveside service will follow at Greenlawn Southwest 2739 Panama Ln. A public viewing will be held Friday September 18th from 7 to 9 pm at Kern River Family Mortuary on 1900 N. Chester.
