January 6, 1927 — January 18, 2015
Finished his earthly journey and joined a multitude of relatives and friends who have accepted the gift of eternal life through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Skip was born in Grand Junction, CO and joined the US Navy during World War II, proudly serving aboard the USS Frazier. He worked for Campbell Soup Company for 40 years, and retired in 1988. During his retirement he enjoyed traveling, fishing, puttering and visiting with friends and relatives. He and Ada traveled to Europe and had many adventures RVing to different National landmarks locally and as far away as Alaska. "He never met a stranger" describes Skip perfectly. He loved to chat with strangers and made friends wherever he went.
He was well known for his sense of humor and jokes.
But as much as Skip loved fishing and traveling and puttering in his shop, nothing mattered more to him than his family. He was devoted to Ada and worked tirelessly to support his family throughout his Campbell years. His daughters were the light of his life and days spent fishing and boating with his son are treasured memories. Grandchildren only added more pleasure to his days and he never lost interest in hearing how everyone was doing in his immediate and extended families.
Those who survive and miss him, and look forward to seeing him again include his wife of 66 years, Ada; his children Robert and wife Jane, Cheryl Varner and husband Rick, Tamara Fenner and husband Jim; his grandchildren Lee Varner, Cori Varner, Shannon MacMillan and husband Doug, and Joel Casey; his great grandchildren Ethan Varner, Brianna and Nicholas MacMillan; many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends and neighbors.
Memorial service will be held Saturday January 23 at 11am at Riverlakes Community Church 4301 Calloway Dr Bakersfield, CA
