Richard Chavez

July 29, 1954 — June 28, 2015

Richard was born in Los Angeles, CA to Arthur and Catalina (Castillo) Chavez.

He attended local schools in Southern CA. As an avid athlete, Richard began boxing at an early age. He was a professional Boxer for over two decades, with Global Certification. With an impressive record, he ranked in the top 20% of Middle Weight Boxers in the United States and 18% World Wide. Of significance was his November 1974 - 5th round KO to Manny Castillo in the Olympic Stadium.

Richard was never to be one, with grass growing under his feet. He occupied his down time as a professional Mason, specializing in Commercial Tile installation.

A long time resident of Southern California, in later years - he relocated to Bakersfield, where he could spend more time with his family.

On the evening of June 28th 2015, Richard passed from this life with his family at his side.

Richard is preceded in death by his father, Arthur. Survived by his mother Catalina of Los Angeles and beloved daughters; Desi and Dena - both of Bakersfield, Ryan of Redding, CA. Grandchildren; Danyale, Jeramy, Kalene, Chris, Crystal, R.J., Natalee. Great Granddaughter Lily. Nephews; Anthony and Carlos. As well as his loving brothers and sister and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Hoffman Hospice for the care and compassion, that has been shown to Richard during the final weeks of his life.

A Memorial Service is scheduled for 10:00 am Wednesday July 29, 2015 at Bakersfield Family Church - 106 Wilson Ave. Bakersfield, CA. Officiating is Pastor Richard Hill.
