Rita Chavez Prendez
May 9, 1940 – March 11, 2013
Rita Chavez Prendez was born to Herb and Esther Chavez in Shafter, CA. She attended Richland Schools and graduated from Shafter High School.
Rita married her high school sweetheart, Jim Prendez on August 19, 1961. Together they had five children. Rita worked for Bank of America for several years and then for the Richland School District as the Migrant Program clerk for over 20 years.
Rita served her God, family, church and community. She was a lifelong member of Primera Iglesia Bautista of Shafter. There she served as treasurer, Sunday School teacher and deaconess. Rita enjoyed reading, spending time with her grandchildren, traveling with her family, and participating in church activities.
Rita is preceded in death by her father: Herbert Chavez, mother: Esther B. Chavez, and grandson: Anthony P. Gonzalez.
Rita is survived by her husband: Jim Prendez, daughter: Michelle Prendez, son: Brian Prendez (Deborah), daughter: Aimee Gallardo (Mario), daughter: Rebecca Quintana (Brian) and daughter: Leah Prendez. Grandchildren: 9, great-grandchildren: 4. Brothers: Larry Chavez, Andrew Chavez, and Herb Chavez, sisters: Virginia Permenter and Julia Chavez.
Rita has left the legacy of family, faith in God, love and service to others.
Services: March 18, 2013, Valley Bible Church, 350 Pine Street, Shafter, California at 10am. Burial: Shafter Memorial Park – Reception to follow at Valley Bible Church.
