Timothy Ray Dorton, known affectionately as Tim, passed away on July 18, 2024, at the age of 57 in his hometown of Bakersfield, CA. Born on May 30, 1967, in Bakersfield, he was a son to the late Reverend John L. Dorton and Delores Juanita Dorton. Tim was preceded in death by his brother Rejis Rush (Speedy) and several beloved grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Tim was a man of profound intellect and sensitivity, cherished by all who knew him. His early education at Pioneer Drive Elementary and Foothill High School laid the foundation for his further studies at Bakersfield College and the Phoenix Institute of Technology, where he pursued architecture. However, his true passion lay in mechanics, leading him to a distinguished career as an L1 Auto Mechanic at Nissan of Bakersfield, an Electrical Troubleshooting Specialist, and a Smog Tech at numerous dealerships across Bakersfield. His mechanical skills were not only recognized locally but also published, marking him as an expert in his field.
Despite retiring early due to Parkinson's disease, Tim continued to engage with his passions. He was an avid reader and lifelong learner, always eager to absorb new knowledge. His love for music, which began in his youth, evolved into a deep appreciation for various genres, making him a true connoisseur. Tim also maintained a website offering advice on auto troubleshooting, helping countless individuals with his expertise.
Deeply rooted in his faith, Tim was an inactive member of the Faith Temple Pentecostal Church of God. His commitment to spirituality was a cornerstone of his life, reflecting the influence of his family's strong religious background.
Tim is survived by his brother, Alan Dorton and sister in law Tajunia; sister Juanita Robbie and husband Bill Grady; and his aunt Jackie Collins-Auld, who he dearly loved. He also leaves behind his nephew and roommate Sean Charles LaBansky, close family members Bertie Jo and Bernie Winters who Tim also viewed as siblings, and numerous cousins who will miss him dearly.
A short memorial will be held graveside at 2 pm on August 3, 2024, at Hillcrest Memorial Park, where friends and family will gather to honor his memory.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Parkinson's Disease Association, honoring Tim's courageous battle with the disease. Tim's legacy of kindness, wisdom, and devotion will forever resonate with those who were fortunate to know him.
